Rule and assumptions
Fit check = design width / recommended zone width. Collar drop is selected from placement and size presets, then adjusted when the design is tall. Presets are starting points.
- This is a placement planning aid, not a replacement for measuring the actual shirt.
- Heat press pillows, seams, and raised pockets may require manual adjustment.
- Run a sample press before batch production.
Use this tool for
- Planning center front HTV placement on adult or youth shirts.
- Checking left chest HTV placement before pressing a logo.
- Testing pocket HTV placement and sleeve HTV sizing with a safety note.
- Comparing the design size against a safe heat press placement zone.
Worked example
Inputs
- Unit: inches
- Shirt size: Adult M
- Placement target: center front
- Design width: 9 in
- Design height: 7 in
Result
The tool returns a 9.60 in wide by 9.60 in high estimated zone, a 3.00 in collar drop, and a fit status for the 9 x 7 in design.
When to use this
Use this before pressing a standard HTV front design when you need a placement zone and collar drop in one copyable spec.
What to check before pressing
Lay the shirt flat, check that the top of the design is not crowding the collar, and avoid seams or raised pocket edges.
Quick reference chart
| Use case | Starting point | Check before pressing |
|---|---|---|
| Center front | 2.5 to 3.5 in below collar | Most common HTV shirt placement |
| Left chest | 3 to 4 in wide | Align around chest center, not armpit seam |
| 2.5 to 3.5 in wide | Avoid pressing across thick pocket edges | |
| Back | 10 to 12 in wide | Check hood or collar overlap |
Common mistakes
- Centering from the shirt edge instead of the worn centerline.
- Forgetting to reduce width for youth sizes.
- Pressing over a pocket seam without a pillow or pad.
