Rule and assumptions
Average diameter = (top diameter + bottom diameter) / 2. Wrap width = pi x average diameter + seam overlap. Wrap height = printable body height.
- The formula is a planning estimate for straight or lightly tapered cups.
- Strong taper and handles may require a curved template or split layout.
- Printer scaling and cup taper should be checked with a paper test wrap.
Use this tool for
- Calculating custom tumbler wrap size from top and bottom diameters.
- Estimating cup wrap width with seam overlap.
- Checking tapered tumbler measurements before printing.
- Creating a copyable sublimation template result for a test wrap.
Worked example
Inputs
- Unit: inches
- Top diameter: 2.95 in
- Bottom diameter: 2.75 in
- Printable body height: 8.20 in
- Seam overlap: 0.25 in
- Output mode: one-piece wrap
Result
The calculator returns a wrap width around 9.20 in and a wrap height of 8.20 in.
When to use this
Use this when the tumbler model does not match a common preset or the exact cup dimensions are available.
What to check before pressing
Confirm you entered diameter, not circumference, and print a paper wrap before sublimating the final design.
Quick reference chart
| Use case | Starting point | Check before pressing |
|---|---|---|
| Straight cup | Use average diameter | Verify circumference |
| Tapered cup | Measure top and bottom | Consider split layout |
| Handled cup | Use handle-safe panel | Do not wrap through handle |
Common mistakes
- Entering circumference in a diameter field.
- Using zero or negative overlap values.
- Ignoring taper when top and bottom diameters differ.
